Born in the area of Pollock Hills, Western Australia. Naata Nungurrayi commenced painting for Papunya Tula Artists in 1996. Naata is the sister of George Tjungurrayi and Nancy Nungurrayi both highly sought after artists. Naata’s depictions include the Marrapinti rock hole site. Naata Nungurrayi is from the Pintupi Language group from Kintore and is one of the leading Kintore women artists she is in her 70's. A respected senior elder whose artwork is sought after by collectors worldwide. All of her works are connected with women’s business the Tingari Cycle. One of her paintings was used as a motif on an Australian stamp in 2003. The Tingari Cycle is a group of ancestral spirit beings that brought law and culture to the people of the Western Desert. Tingari stories and paintings are depictions of journeys and sacred-secret sites and events. The Tingari women usually followed the Tingari men and were accompanied by novices.
