Born in Laura, North Queensland, Arone at the age of 10 moved to El-Arish to live with his grandfather and uncle after his mother died. It was from his grandfather that he heard the stories of his tribal area, Laura, of the spirits that populated it, of the people and their laws and customs. In 1980 Arone graduated from Alexander Mackie College, Sydney, with a Diploma of Art. He undertook postgraduate studies in Traditional Art and Culture on Mornington Island in 1981, and completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the City Arts Institute in Sydney in 1984 |
